My cousin, who is from the “military” side of the family, got married recently. Her husband had enlisted into the military and was sent to Bahgdad, in the thick of it all. We got word a couple days ago that he was separated from his unit and was hit by shrapnel from a grenade. His actions may have helped save the rest of his unit, but at a cost. The good news is, he’s going to survive. The bad news is it hit three vertibre, tore up his arm, and hit both his eyes. Luckily no major nerves are severed but they are not sure if he’ll get full vision back or be able to walk without a cane. I am sick for my cousin, as she has only been married a couple months.
Her husband was awarded a Purple Heart and is being sent state side for his series of surgeries. Prayers and good vibes that can be spared would be wonderful.

I found this interesting website of a company that specializes in doing photo touch ups for magazines and other star venues.

Click on “portfolio” at the top and then click on the pictures down below. Mouse over them for the “before” of the touch up. You’ll be amazed.

So Saturday night was suppose to be D&D night. I was very much looking forward to it, even though a friend of mine I really wanted to see bailed on us (I am very miffed with him and expect him to make it up to me). Well, our tank didn’t show up and the wizard was late, so I decided to go to the Milonga instead. What’s a Milonga? Its a Tango dance party. Tango of the argentine variety, not ballroom. Go here, if you want to know more.
Anyway, I had been taking lessons with a group called Tango Evolution for a bit before my surgery. I went back to my first lesson on Thursday and the instructors and regulars were all happy to see me. I felt good that they remembered me. After the lesson Edie (the cute blond instructor) aske me if I was coming to the dance. I told her no, I was geeking out. (These people are awesome, most of them are geeks too) So when I showed up she was surprised to see me. I told her that the tank cancelled on us. She replied “So you put up your dice and donned french pearls? Now THAT’S a woman.”

I am posting. One might wonder what in the world happened to me. Well… I had this back injury see. I got it while I was working at That Search Engine as a Contractor. For 14 months we’ve been trying to alleviate a ruptured disk with non surgical methods. It finally came down to having a micro discectomy on May 11th. I’m mostly recovered, now I’m trying to regain my strength. I still have discomfort and my right leg just doesn’t feel right. As in the nerves are damaged from being blocked by the disk for so long. I no longer need narcotics to control the pain. But they removed about 20-30 percent of the lowest disk and had to manipulate the major nerve bundle to remove the pieces that had broken off and lodged themselves there. Oh… and a bone spur.
The suck thing is… I had gotten a new job at Digital Agent after The Search Engine terminated my contract. I was pretty happy there, but while I was out recovering from a major surgery they apparently found that they didn’t really need a big support department. I got laid off the second week back. I wasn’t even really upset for more than a day or so. So now… I’m back looking for a job. Goody.
Simon just started first grade and Felicity should be in pre-k. My attempt to get her into the state funded pre-k program failed miserably. I could either take her to a school over 20 miles away in a bad neighborhood, or I could have had her in a day care the entire time with my name on the list waiting for a spot. Irritating.
For the social part of my life, my roommate is running a D&D game and my husband a fantasy (ancient orient) type champions game. There’s been other interesting developements with the people in my social circle, some good, some bad. Mostly… I try not to put that sort of thing out there.
