sometimes things just irk me

Filed under: General, Political Outlet, geek mother's rantings — ladykatza @ 2:22 pm

Thanks to The Yellow King for pointing THIS ARTICLE out. It is actually something that has come to mind recently, about how intollerant people have become of children in the USA. I get flack from some of my liberal friends about living in a conservative county in a conservative state, but I at least I don’t get the “you are a horrible breeder” looks all the time. Cause really, I’ve gotten them elsewhere. There are many groups that can be found that are all in support of being “childless” and call children “crotch droppings” and other derogatory terms.

Well, you know, you had to come from somewhere, didn’t you? If you have that much of a problem with the human race and overpopulation and breeding, then do us all a favor and go take a long walk off of a short plank. If you have children, then stop buying into all this bullshit they are selling you of “spare the rod, spoil the child” and DISCIPLINE YOUR CHILDREN!! Oh, and set good examples. Children are little copycats and they look to their elders to learn behavior. If you act like an ass in public chances are they will too.

Microwaved Penis

Filed under: General, Political Outlet — ladykatza @ 12:11 pm

So I have recently discovered a blog of a judge in California that has, let us say, a very unique perspective on our legal system. His most recent post is about a case that was recently tried on the east coast, and has even been appealed. The article can be read here.

quote from the article:

Now wouldn’t you love to be the McKeesport, Pennsylvania cop who got this call? “One-Adam Twelve. See the man. Couple microwaving penis in convenience store.”

Go and read the rest for yourself, and many of his other entries. I don’t suggest eating or drinking while doing so.

“but the fishy looked lonely”

Filed under: General, geek mother's rantings, through a child's eyes — ladykatza @ 2:01 pm

for his birthday we got simon a beta. he wanted to get a pet with all this birthday money he raked in, and while turtles were cool, i convinced him a fish would be cooler. so a little mini-tank and a beta is what we got him. we’ve done a lot to keep that fish alive the past several months, but felicity deciding that she wanted to play with him and using old paper cups with toothpaste in them to put water back into his tank…well, he didn’t survive it. to be honest, i don’t think he was healthy to begin with.
now, i had wanted to make an object lesson out of this for felicity, but daecon pointed out that he didn’t want this to be a point of contention between our two children. household tranquility and all that, so ya, i had to agree with that point.

as it should just so happen, grandma had come to pick up the kids to spend the night. the petstore is open for another hour and a half. yippee! my roommate and i head over to get us Mr. Cool Duce. i found one close enough in colouring to the first one and we cleaned out the tank, and upgraded to real plants. Mr. Cool (the name of the original one beta) is now Duce, the replacement. my roommate suggested telling simon that Mr. Cool was selected by secret agents to go and save the world and Duce was selected as a stand-in so simon wouldn’t get lonely. that is, if he notices the switch. sometimes the kids are observant about these things, and sometimes they aren’t. we’ll see.

Two to Tango

Filed under: General — ladykatza @ 6:10 pm

I have completed one more of things I want to do before I die. I learned to tango. Ok, its wasn’t the greatest tango, about as simple as you can get. But I Tangoed. neener.

A friend of my husband’s is taking ballroom dancing lessons at the Fred Astaire Studio over at the King Plow Arts Center. I was invited to be a “guest” for a free group lesson and the dance party afterward. Free champagne, can’t beat that! The entire time during the party I was unable to sit down, everytime I tried I was grabbed up for another dance. It was apparently a light crowd, so I spent a great deal of my dance time with the male instructors. It was fun because they embellished on the basic steps I had just learned.

And I danced the tango! Oooo, I can’t wait to do more. I was asked several times where I had taken lessons before, and I kept saying that this was my first official lesson. I’ve been faking it for years.

Well, its that time. Going to go hang out with a co-worker until its time to go to my lesson.

TaTa for now!
